Evaluation 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Post-it Note Presentation:

Evaluation 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Evaluation 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Evaluation 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

1. The first picture is from the opening of the music video, it shows close-ups of the girls getting ready to go out. Close ups show the importance of the storyline, this is quite a girly song so this scene goes well with it and is typically seen in many pop music videos so follows the codes and conventions of them.

2. We included a lot of close-up shots of the main artist throughout the video as this is important to have in music videos and is often seen as it helps promote the artist. Fans will watch the video because they like the artist so that person must be shown a lot throughout the video and close-ups are a good way of showing this.

3. In many pop music videos, there is a love interest so we decided to have one in our video as part of the storyline. This follows the conventions of a pop music video and adds to the story rather than the girls just going out for a night of fun. Fans can also to relate to this as it's something everyone goes through.

4. The fourth picture is from the police outfit scene. We wanted something a bit different so decided to use a fancy dress police costume to show the rebellion of the girls. The lyrics suggest that the girls are crazy and wild and so we thought showing the artist in a police costume would contrast against this, however making it sexy means it still fits in with the rest of the video

5. In the party scene, we showed everyone doing shots as this something that typically happens at parties and helps make it look more realistic. Alcohol is often a prop used in pop music videos so this follows the codes and conventions and fans can also relate to this.

6. In pop music videos, there are sometimes random props so we thought to use a shoe shaped chair. The outfit we decided on was a typical sexy outfit which included suspenders, leather and animal print as we wanted the artist to come across sexy. This also appeals to the male audience due to voyeurism meaning we can widen our target audience.

7. The location for the beginning sequence was a girls bedroom, we chose one that was clearly girly and had a lot of pink in it as this is the typical girl bedroom. This location is often seen in pop music videos based around a female artist so this follows the codes and conventions.

8&9. The last two photos are to show one of the shots we did. We wanted to use continuity when editing so shot the girls going into the party from two angles and matched them up when editing the video together. This makes the video look more interesting rather than straight cuts throughout.

Final Video

Here is the final cut of our music video:

Editing

When editing the video, we put all the clips in place before editing their look, here is a clip of what this looked like:

We then increased the brightness and contrast on most of the clips to make them more brighter, stand out and seem less dull. We liked this idea as the colours were a lot more brighter which suited the pop music video genre well.

Here is the same clip but with the edited brightness and contrast, which makes a huge difference:

Discarded Footage

Although this scene wasn't in our storyboard, instead of dancing in front of a graffiti wall we thought we could have a scene of the artist using spray paint. We had trouble finding a location with a graffiti wall which was why the dance scene didn't work out. We used an ally way by Scarlett's house and using a can of coloured hairspray to make it look like spray paint. However looking back on the footage, we didn't get any good shots for us to use in the video and because the scene was planned last minute, we didn't have the best outfit that represented the artist well and went with the rest of the video.

Here are some screenshots of the discarded footage:

The scenes were very dark and we felt this didn't match the rest of the footage as we wanted the music video to be mainly bright coloured and well lit as it is a fun, upbeat song.

Reshoots

We decided to reshoot two of our scenes as they weren't quite what we wanted.

Sparkler Scene
The first scene we reshot was the sparkler scene. Originally, we filmed during the day as this was the only time we could get all the girls together however on the day one of them couldn't make it. This meant that there were different people in the sparkler scene than in the rest and this may confuse the audience. The sparklers we used didn;t have a very big spark and as it was daylight, barely showed up. We had planned to edit in the darkness, however looking back on the footage we decided reshooting it would be the best option.

This is what the original sparkler footage looked like:

Here is what the reshoot footage looked like:

We felt the reshoot footage looked a lot better as we shot it in the dark which made it look more realistic. We also made sure we had better sparklers that were brighter, and because it wasn't light outside they showed up a lot better.

Shoe Chair Scene
The second piece of footage we decided to reshoot was the lip syncing shoe chair scene. We didn't like the originally footage because of the background and outfit choice. We hadn't planned an outfit very well and didn't like that it was just black and white everywhere as we wanted it to clash a bit with the chair. We also couldn't find a plain background to put the chair on, or anywhere that looked good.

Here is what the original footage looked like:

You can clearly see there are curtains in the background and that it is in the same room that the getting ready scene was shot in. We also had to cover radiators up with animal print fur coats but looking back on the footage, we realised this location was awful and we couldn't use it.

Here is what the reshoot footage of the shoe chair scene looked like:

We hung a piece of white material in the background to hide anything in the background. We couldn't fit the whole body and shoe in with the material in the background  so we decided to shoot it like this and zoom in the areas we wanted when editing. This worked well as this is what the edited footage looked like:
